Welcome to our Website!
We would like to present our Rural Bioclimatic Sustainable Center. It is located in Puentedura, at the foot of the Arlanza river, halfway between Lerma and Covarrubias in Burgos, Spain.
This space adds an innovative option to the already plentiful tourist attractions in the Castilla and León region. We invite you to participate in and learn about our agro-tourism project. We also offer a variety of ecotourism options, centered on enjoying the natural setting of the breathtaking surroundings, including the La Yecla natural Park and the Sabinares del Arlanza forest.
Our strong believe in responsibility applied to one’s lifestyle led us to design a project based on sustainable concepts in terms of construction, maintenance and operation.

1- A HEALTHY HOUSE (Back)
Our guest house is a bioclimatic building with large windows facing south to take full advantage of the sun’s energy and built with ecological celluloid insulation which greatly reduces the need for heating. Both the water heater and the central heating units are powered with geothermic energy. This clean, renewable energy source is based on exchanging the heat stored underground which, in the case of our guest house, is distributed through heat radiating floor boards.
You would be staying in a healthy house, built using natural materials. The stones originally scattered throughout the grounds were employed for construction. The carpentry and roof structure is wooden. Cement was substituted by lime mortar and we made no use of paint or PVC. The rainwater feeds our “green roofing” and is stored for watering the gardens. We purify our residual waters and sort all our garbage to be recycled. We have installed water-saving systems in all our faucets and shower heads and use only energy-saving light bulbs.
In order to ensure that everyone can enjoy our facilities, we also offer handicapped accessible bathrooms and showers, ramps in all the access doors to the building, and wide hallways, providing ample room to maneuver wheelchairs. The outside bar area has a counter adapted to an 80cm height.
All these features convert the entire venue into a charming hotel!
2- OUR KITCHEN (Back)
Our menu incorporates locally grown produce from the nearby fields, or ingredients found in the surrounding countryside, such as mushrooms. We also offer typical local products such as morcilla and chorizo sausages, different types of hams and cheeses, local honey varieties, etc. Our guests enjoy their choice of char-grilled steak, fish and delicious paellas cooked according to the traditional Valencia recipe. All this is topped with homemade desserts and accompanied by the best wines in the Ribera del Arlanza region. We also offer vegetarian meals and cater to the special dietary needs of people with allergies or any type of illness.
We recommend trying our free range hen eggs, and, when available, dishes prepared using our own chickens.
Our open-air bistro is open to the general public all summer long. The bar/bistro area is separated from the guest house to allow our visitors a restful stay. The bar countertop is built with large trunks of the local tree species, the Sabina. We serve tapas, salads and different dishes under the warm shade and to the tune of ambiance music. Al fresco concerts are programmed every Saturday so that our visitors can relax to a music-filled sunset. We highly recommend this experience!
3- ACCOMMODATIONS (Back)
Our guest house includes six rooms, each decorated in a simple fashion which evokes specific themes. Every room accommodates 2, 3 or 4 persons and is ideal for families with children. Each room is equipped with a bathroom with thermostatic faucets, a full sized bed in the loft area, a direct TV enabled set, free internet access and a 18m2 terrace with magnificent views.
One of our main features is the private terrace with vegetation that corresponds to the room theme and which is equipped with a table, chairs and umbrella set. This outdoor private space leads to the general garden area reserved for the exclusive use of our guests.
The common areas consist of a living room with a chimney, a dining room which seats 32 people, two public restrooms and a buffet area with a refrigerator and microwave.
The entire premises are fenced in so that the children can play while their parents relax. There are swings, a game area, and a guarded entrance apart from the parking lot.
4- ENVIRONMENT AND ACTIVITIES (Back)
There is a wide array of activities to choose from within the guest house grounds: the vegetable patch, the farm animals, identifying the species in our small botanical garden or learning about our “green roof”. Visitors can also opt for going out on hikes, bike rides, horse back rides, playing golf in the Lerma Golf Course or doing a route through the villages and monuments in the region (such as Covarrubias, San pedro de Arlanza and Santo Domingo de Silos, among others). A short drive away visitors can see where “The Good the Bad and the Ugly” was filmed, take in the monumental sights at the city of Burgos, and get to know the impressive Sierra de la Demanda or the Atapuerca archeological site.
The “Los Sabinares del Arlanza” forest is an ideal setting for bird watching, searching for different varieties of edible mushrooms and discovering the typical zones where vegetable coal is made out of wood piles. Visiting the vineyards and wine cellars is always a favorite activity in this region, which thrives on its certified wines originating in the Arlanza riverbed. There are plenty of activities we can assist in organizing according to your preferences.
5- CORPORATE & ORGANIZATION MEETINGS (Back)
Our large dining area can be adapted to hold company events, meetings and conferences in a warm and peaceful environment.
All necessary equipment, such as projectors, is readily available when requested previously.
We also organize any free time activities you may wish to include in your program; such as visits to nearby wine cellars, horse back riding or any other leisure events you want to enjoy in the area.
6- GROUP AND SCHOOL VISITS (Back)
We strongly believe that our mission is to teach future generations about the importance of returning to the sustainable lifestyles of our forefathers, who made optimal use of our natural resources and in doing so reduced pollution from emissions and garbage to the highest possible degree.
Our goal is for the younger generations to understand that they don’t have to renounce to the basic comforts modernity in order to lead a lifestyle based on responsible consumption. They should understand how to make better use of the many resources given to us by nature and understand a way of life that has been, and in many cases continues to be, the basis of rural communities.
The general concept structure that we propose to our visitors involves teaching them basic notions of the following subjects:
1/ Bioclimatic architecture, renewable energy, geothermic power, green roofs, recycled paper insulation and other environmentally-friendly materials
2/ Gardening and ecologic horticulture. The basic principles of composts.
3/ Caring for small farm animals, and all related tasks
4/ Transformation of raw materials, culinary and cosmetic recipes
We have developed educational programs based on the above subject matter, while always focusing on the most important themes, adapted to our facilities and to the educational needs of each particular group.
Many of these activities can be conducted in English at the guest’s request.
The "Sabinares del Arlanza" bioclimatic center is a place of entertainment, as well as an educational experience. It’s not just about spending a day in the countryside. We offer an engaging way for our guests to learn the values of rural life based on a thorough respect for the environment.
